How to connect Pipedrive to ChatGPT

By Tomi · Last updated

There are two ways to connect Pipedrive to ChatGPT, and both need a paid ChatGPT plan. The Pipedrive app in ChatGPT syncs your data so you can ask questions, but it can't change anything. To let ChatGPT create and update deals, people and activities, you add Pipedrive's MCP server as an app in Developer mode. Neither one can delete, merge or bulk edit records (checked October 29, 2026).

Quick answer: which connection do you need?

If you want to Use
Ask questions about your pipeline and get summaries, without any risk The Pipedrive app (read-only sync)
Create or update deals, people, organizations, leads, notes, activities The Pipedrive MCP in Developer mode
Keep ChatGPT data in the EU (EU data residency) Not the sync app: Pipedrive says it isn't available there. Pipedrive doesn't say whether the MCP path works with EU residency
You're on ChatGPT Free or Go Neither. Claude's Free plan can connect Pipedrive
You're on ChatGPT Plus The MCP path may work: OpenAI offers Developer mode on Plus, but Pipedrive doesn't list Plus. We haven't tested it
Change one field on dozens of records, merge duplicates or delete Do it inside Pipedrive (list view bulk edit, Merge duplicates). The ChatGPT connections can't

The two connections side by side

Can change Pipedrive No. "The sync is one-way only, from Pipedrive to ChatGPT" Yes: create and update one record at a time
Data freshness Indexed in advance, refreshed every 30 minutes Live
ChatGPT plans Pro, Business, Enterprise, Edu Pipedrive lists Pro, Business, Enterprise, Edu
Who sets it up A ChatGPT workspace admin enables it, then each person connects Pro and Plus: each person. Business, Enterprise and Edu: an admin or owner, or an authorized developer on Enterprise and Edu
Uses your Pipedrive API budget Yes, Pipedrive says so "Subject to token limits based on your plan"

Both respect your Pipedrive permissions: ChatGPT sees only what your Pipedrive user can see.

What you need before you start

  • Pipedrive: any plan. The MCP is "available on all Pipedrive plans" at no extra cost (Pipedrive MCP page). You need permission to install apps in your Pipedrive company.
  • ChatGPT: Pro, Business, Enterprise or Edu, according to both Pipedrive guides. OpenAI's own docs also list Plus for Developer mode. Prices change often; check chatgpt.com/pricing for yours.
  • On Business or Enterprise: your workspace admin may need to allow the app, or create the MCP app for you.

Option 1: the Pipedrive app (read-only)

Use this if you only want answers. Steps from Pipedrive's ChatGPT Pipedrive app guide:

  1. Ask your ChatGPT workspace admin to enable the Pipedrive app. Members can't connect it until that's done.

  2. Open your settings. Click your profile icon in the bottom-left corner, then Settings.

  3. Find Pipedrive. Open the Apps & Connectors tab and find the Pipedrive app.

  4. Connect your company. Click Connect, type your Pipedrive company subdomain and click Continue to Pipedrive.

  5. Approve in Pipedrive. Log in if needed, choose your company and click Allow and install.

  6. Turn on the sync. In the installation pop-up, click Enable Sync, then Enable. The first sync can take a few hours.

  7. Ask questions. In a chat, click +, choose Company knowledge and select Pipedrive as the source.

To turn it off: Settings > Apps & Connectors, find Pipedrive and click Disable.

Two things to know. Only the person who connected can use the synced data. And Pipedrive says the data ChatGPT reads counts toward your Pipedrive API usage limits, so a large account syncing every 30 minutes uses part of the same daily budget as your other integrations.

Option 2: the Pipedrive MCP in Developer mode (read and write)

Use this if you want ChatGPT to create and update records. Steps from Pipedrive's Pipedrive MCP for ChatGPT, updated October 15, 2026, with the menu names that guide uses.

  1. Turn on Developer mode. In ChatGPT's settings, open Security and login, scroll down to Developer mode and turn it on.

  2. Create the app. In the left-hand menu, go to Plugins and click +.

  3. Fill in the connection. Name it Pipedrive MCP and paste https://mcp.pipedrive.ai/mcp in the Connection field. Click Create.

  4. Approve in Pipedrive. ChatGPT sends you to Pipedrive. Review the permissions and click Allow and install.

  5. Add it to the chat. Before you start a conversation, add the Pipedrive MCP plugin to it.

  6. Test with a read-only question first, for example: "List my open deals in the Proposal stage with no activity in the last 14 days."

Confirmations. According to OpenAI's help center, ChatGPT asks you to confirm write actions by default, and you can choose to apply your answer for the rest of the conversation. Don't do that with Pipedrive until you trust the prompt: each confirmation is your chance to catch the wrong record.

If sign-in loops. A Pipedrive user on r/pipedrive wrote in July 2026 that ChatGPT "sent me in an endless loop of authentication" while Claude worked. If that happens, remove the app, sign out of Pipedrive in the browser and create it again. If it keeps failing, the Claude connector is the fallback.

What you can and can't do

With the MCP path, ChatGPT gets the same tools as any assistant using Pipedrive's server: 51 tools on October 22, 2026 (Pipedrive MCP tools).

In Pipedrive Pipedrive app (sync) Pipedrive MCP
Read deals, people, organizations, leads Yes Yes
Create and update deals, people, orgs, leads No Yes, one at a time
Create and update activities and notes No Yes
Convert a lead to a deal No Yes
Read email threads Not documented Yes, if email sync is on
Link an email thread to a deal or lead No Yes
Projects (Projects add-on) Not documented Yes: read, create and update
Delete records No No
Merge duplicates No No
Bulk edit No No (it loops, one call per record)
Undo a change No No

Prompts you can copy

Prompt Works with
"Which deals are most likely to close this month, and what's the next step on each?" Both
"Summarize the last 30 days on the Northwind deal: notes, activities and stage changes." Both
"Draft a follow-up email for every deal in Negotiation that had a meeting this week. Don't send anything." Both
"Create a deal for Northwind, 12,000, owner me, stage Qualified. Search first and tell me if one already exists." MCP
"Add a call activity for tomorrow at 10:00 on the Acme deal with this agenda: [paste]. Show me the activity before creating it." MCP
"Convert the lead 'Globex pilot' to a deal and tell me the new deal's stage and value." MCP

Costs and limits

  • Pipedrive: no extra charge on any plan. Pipedrive says usage "is subject to token limits based on your plan and you can purchase additional tokens if needed". It didn't publish the token cost of each MCP action on October 29, 2026.
  • The company budget: your Pipedrive API budget is shared by every integration, the ChatGPT sync app included. When it runs out, requests fail with a 429 ("too many requests") error until the daily reset, which we measured at 07:00 UTC on our sandbox account in October 2026. How an AI can use up a day of it: Why Claude used up your Pipedrive API tokens. The same applies to ChatGPT.

What can go wrong

  • Many changes from one sentence. "Update the region on all deals from these 30 companies" turns into dozens of searches and updates. If it stops halfway, some deals are updated and some aren't.
  • The wrong match. Searches return similar names. Ask ChatGPT to list the records it found, with their owners, before changing anything.
  • Confirmations become routine. After the tenth "Confirm", people stop reading. Keep requests small so each confirmation means something.
  • No undo. Pipedrive's change log shows what changed. Restore data brings back deleted items for 30 days and, according to Pipedrive's product updates, can revert bulk edits since March 2026 (we haven't tested it yet, October 29, 2026). Its only revert tabs are Bulk edits and Bulk conversions, with nothing for a one-at-a-time edit, which is how ChatGPT changes records. An overwritten value has to be typed back by hand.
  • Stale answers with the sync app. Data can be up to 30 minutes old. Don't use it to check something a teammate changed a minute ago.

Before you let ChatGPT write

  • Start with the read-only app, or read-only questions in the MCP, for your first week.
  • Ask for the list of records and the exact changes before any write.
  • Keep each request to 20 records or fewer and check them in Pipedrive.
  • Read every confirmation; don't approve for the whole conversation.
  • Export the affected list from Pipedrive before a large change, so you have the old values.

What we couldn't verify

  • ChatGPT's menu names on your account. They follow Pipedrive's October 15, 2026 guide; ChatGPT has renamed this area before (connectors, apps, plugins), so look for the closest match.
  • Whether the MCP path works on ChatGPT Plus and with EU data residency.
  • OpenAI's help article and pricing page block automated reading; we used their search summaries on October 29, 2026.

Where Pipehand fits

Pipehand is planned to launch in April 2027 as a replacement for Pipedrive's MCP that works from ChatGPT and the other major assistants. Instead of twenty separate Confirm clicks, it is designed to show what a merge will change, or how many records a bulk edit will change with examples, ask for one approval on the whole set, and undo it afterwards if something was wrong.

FAQ

Can you connect Pipedrive to ChatGPT?

Yes, in two ways. The Pipedrive app in ChatGPT syncs your data for questions and can't change anything. The Pipedrive MCP, added as a plugin in Developer mode, can also create and update records. Both need a paid ChatGPT plan.

Does the Pipedrive ChatGPT integration work on ChatGPT Plus?

The read-only Pipedrive app doesn't: it needs Pro, Business, Enterprise or Edu. For the MCP path, Pipedrive lists the same plans, but OpenAI offers Developer mode on Plus too. We haven't tested Plus.

Where do I paste the Pipedrive MCP URL in ChatGPT?

In the Connection field when you create the plugin in Developer mode: https://mcp.pipedrive.ai/mcp. Then approve with Allow and install in Pipedrive. More on the server in Does Pipedrive have an MCP server?.

Can ChatGPT delete or merge records in Pipedrive?

No. Neither the app nor the MCP has delete, merge or bulk tools as of October 2026. Use Merge duplicates and bulk edit inside Pipedrive.

Is the Pipedrive ChatGPT app free?

Pipedrive doesn't charge for it. You need a paid ChatGPT plan, and the data it reads counts toward your Pipedrive API usage limits.

For developers

Server details and confirmations
  • Server: https://mcp.pipedrive.ai/mcp, remote MCP over Streamable HTTP, OAuth with Pipedrive's "Allow and install" screen. The OAuth client needs an allowed redirect URI: between October 15 and 28, 2026, seven MCP client vendors asked Pipedrive to add theirs on the developer community. We haven't tested the OpenAI API against this server.
  • Tool annotations: OpenAI treats tools without a readOnlyHint annotation as write actions, which is what triggers the confirmation prompt.
  • Same budget as your code: if you also call the Pipedrive API with a token or your own OAuth app, it shares the company's daily budget. Read the remaining budget from the x-daily-ratelimit-token-remaining header.
